1st Goumier rifle platoon

 1st Goumier Rifle Platoon

I`ve decided to build my Goumier Tabor (Battalion) along the standard lines of Charles Grant`s classic "Battle" rules.

So a company will be made up of three 10-figure platoons. Eventually the various platoons will be a mixture of figures from all the available types, but in this painting phase of the project I`m just doing batches of 10 or so at a time.

Two figures from Shellhole Scenics pack FRE5

8 Raventhorpe Goumier (Pack SPEC25)

All together

  1. Very nice. I recall there are (were?) other Goumiers out there in 20mm scale. I have a pack in my lead mountain somewhere - they’re styled for the Italian campaign. I think, but can’t be 100%, that they were Drew’s Militia. Good luck tracking them down though…

    1. Cheers Geoff, Andrew (Drew of Drew`s Militia) sculpted for Battlefield Miniatures and his Goumier were released under their "Blitz" label before Stuart became ill and the company went into stasis - a great shame :( I have a plan to write an article on building a Goumier Tabor (Battalion) for a wargames table in 20mm using any and all figures available. Unfortunately I have to return to Wales for a month or so, so this is on hold until I get back.

  3. Great stuff Richard, such a shame there are not a greater choice in 28mm. Nice to see more of these entering your collection.

    1. Cheers Stuart, I have to admit an ignorance of 28mm ranges, I`ve only dabbled in that scale for my obsession with the Rif War. Frankly my painting simply can`t do justice to the detail of sculpts and 28mm doesn`t allow you the latitude with mistakes that 20mm does :) If I remember correctly North Star did a pack of SCW Regulares in djellaba and turban which I painted up as Riffi warriors, They may substitude quite well as Goumier, there was even an LMG or Browning automatic rifle?? When I get back to Spain, I`ll have a look and post a couple of photos.
