Onil

 Onil

Onil is a small town situated off the CV80 just across the valley from Castalla.

The town was (and is) known for its manufacturing and during the Civil War this was converted over to making aircraft parts and munitions, there was also small aerodrome.

Now there is nothing left to see of the aerodrome, except for this marker which is situated alongside the road which runs parallel to the CV8153 from J16 of the CV80 towards Onil. Onil Areodrome is noted as being the last place where the Republican flag flew after the official surrender in 1938!

In Onil there is a air-raid shelter with a small museum, but this can only be accessed via request at the town hall.

Close to the shelter entrance I found this small plaque to a man of the town who died in the concentration camps after the war.
