Circassian Cavalry

Circassian Cavalry

As soon as Paul of Early War Miniatures said he was going to do some of these I became excited and from that moment constantly pestered him until he finally released them - sorry Paul :)

Excellent sculpts full of character, very little flash, easy to paint.

This is the first batch, 9 mounted cavalry

All together

Horse holder

Now something you have to consider when using cavalry (well mounted infantry) is a horse holder, I cobbled this group together using EWM`s French Cavalry horse holder pack and a single foot Circassian (who has had an arm swap), I was going to base them all together, but then decided the horses would be more flexible if based in twos (used as dismounts for other armies - SCW, Mexican Revolution, French/Spanish colonials, etc) Also the foot figure can now be used as a dismounted trooper if required also.

  1. Yours EWM figures are awesome.

I am planning for years to make Ciracassians using figures HaT planned to offer (decades ago). Maybe in the future HaT will finally produce them.

    1. Very kind, I did convert a few plastic Napoleonics into Circassians a while back :) I have to admit these are far nicer. Foot figures next up

  2. Lovely work Richard. What campaign(s) will you use them for?
If you are interested in Russian Civil War options, then you may find the Newline 20mm Turcomem (foot and cavalry) in their Colonial Afghan army list, useful for likes of Turcomen or Basmachi. Your Circassians could be useful for Basmachi too.
    All best Carl

    1. I`ve never considered Russian Civil War as wargames period, but you are right these would fit right in. Newline do some excellent figures I have their British in pith helmet which i use as early Spanish regulars (the Spanish bought a load of British helmets).

  3. Thanks for your informative article about the Circassian cav. I have obtained EWM figures and am in the process of painting them.
I was unsure of the colour of the 'crown' of their caps. So maybe the light blue would be appropriate? Any other colours? The net is unhelpful on this subject.
    Thanks Richard.

    1. Thanks, I went for light blue with the crossed cords in white for mine. But if I was doing another troop I`d change the colour of the crown to red or pale green (again with white cords) to make each troop visibly different.
